PrepMe and corporate partners provide scholars
premium ACT and SAT prep courses
Frankfort, Ky. — “Score Your Dream College” Project, along
with PrepMe and other community partners, announced today the donation
of an ACT and SAT online test preparation program to more than 1,000
Governor’s Scholars Program participants. The courses will teach
students skills to maximize their scores on the college admission tests.
The total value of the gift to Governor’s Scholars exceeds
$650,000.
This is the second year for the partnership. Last year,
PrepMe’s prep courses helped Kentucky Governor’s Scholars enhance their
college opportunities and, in turn, receive tens of thousands of dollars
in additional scholarship awards. One student, James Rossi of Corbin,
the 2009 Ameresco scholar, took the PrepMe course and improved his ACT
score to a perfect 36.
PrepMe helps students maximize test scores through a
technological platform that not only teaches strategies, but also
improves reading, writing and mathematical skills. On average, students
completing the courses improve their SAT scores by 305 points, and ACT
scores by 4 to 5 points. PrepMe has been featured in
Business Week,
PC Magazine and on the cover
of FORTUNE Small Business as a
leading innovator in college test preparation.
As a premier college readiness program, PrepMe is committed
to increasing the number of high school students who attend college
while also maximizing college admissions and scholarship opportunities
for students. “PrepMe is proud to support the academic dreams of
Kentucky’s Governor’s Scholars,” says Karan Goel, PrepMe CEO. “All
students deserve the opportunity to make their college dreams a reality
and providing Kentucky schools with skills-based college prep gives us
the chance to be a part of this great program and its important
mission.” The donation of the PrepMe online test preparation courses was
made possible through generous sponsors, including, Ameresco, EMC Corp.,
Pomeroy IT, EquaTerra, LexisNexis, Monster.com, Vermedx, Preston-Osborne
and JYB3 Group.
The Governor’s Scholars Program was developed in 1983 to
enhance the next generation of civic and economic leaders. Participants
are selected through a highly competitive application process similar to
prestigious colleges and universities. In the summer of 2010, more than
1,000 students will attend the Program on three campuses: Bellarmine
University, Murray State University and Centre College.
“On behalf of everyone associated with the Governor’s
Scholars Program, I am excited to make the PrepMe online test
preparation program available to the 2009 participants free of charge,”
said Aris Cedeño, Governor’s Scholar Program Executive Director. “Thanks
to PrepMe and our other sponsors, students now have the prospect of
raising their scores on the standardized admission tests. For many of
these scholars, raising their scores just a few points could translate
into thousands of dollars of extra scholarship money.”
